10 Of the most visited news websites in Kenya

Most media companies in Kenya are turning into digital publishing. The simplicity of getting acess to online news must have been the reason behind this move.
So if you are afun of online news, here are some o the most visited online news sites in Kenya
  • STARNDARDMEDIA.CO.KE
The grandparents to media in Kenya. They ran several newspapers in Kenya include TV and Radio stations.
Standard Media could be the reason you are reading Newspapers in the first place. They love politics and anything.  They got a website too and Kenyans are reading it like crazy.
  • KENYAMOJA.COM
The guys behind Kenya Moja run news they don’t own. It is hard to tell if they can write well or not, but trust me, they are making bucks from their site. Basically what they do is collect News articles from several sites like Standard and the likes, publish on their site with a link to the original publishers then get Kenyans to read them. Boy, they know how to do it and do it well!
Most of the contents on their site are videos form Kenyan televisions. Videos that are making headlines and those that are not.
  • NATION.CO.KE
News in Kenya would not be complete without Nation. They don’t own all the news but they definitely add some incredible flavor to the Kenyan News market.  Operated by the Nation Media Group, Nation is responsible for the successful operations of several radio stations, TV Stations, Newspapers and several websites that are getting all the attention from Kenyans.
  • KENYAN-POST.COM
Popularly known for its crude approach to Politics. This website despite being run by a single person is getting some real attention from Kenyans- again for the same old reason, gossip. And Timothy Obare, the sole operator of these site knows how dish out political gossip that nobody wants to miss. Looking at the multi columned site with so much News articles, you won’t believe it’s a one man’s sweat. Maybe someone is behind the bars.
He might not be spending much to run this site, apart from the usual domain charges, but the dude is surely getting some bucks from Kenyan Post. The site had been  in the past shut down by Google ( It is powered by Blogger, so you get the gist)  after Timothy failed to please some Kenyan cabinet secretary but got it up and running again, this time to attack more cabinet secretaries- not sure, just thinking.
  • THE-STAR.CO.KE
Another News giant in Kenya. Their website probably has some huge following in Kenyan. The Star is run by the Radio Africa group which is also responsible for other popular Kenyan media big names like Classic Fm, Kiss TV, Mpasho, Bambatv and others.  The Star is growing really fast and so are there websites. They also have a huge following on twitter and facebook .
  • BUSINESSDAILYAFRICA.COM
If you think you can just wake up one daily and be the richest business guru, Business Daily Africa will prove you wrong. This is the site you go to for all the juicy business advice and inspiration.  They have the business news inside Africa and they can guess who’s going to get broke next month.
The site is run by the Nation Media Group and they seem to really love what they do.
  • TRENDINGNEWSROOM.COM
They are just like Kenya Moja. All the hottest news in the country in one basket. You don’t have to jump from one site to another looking for trending news.
  • NAIROBINEWS.CO.KE
Another fascinating site run by the Nation Media Group. These guys seem to love websites more that the hardcopy newspapers. Can’t blame them anyway. Every body is running away from tangible stuff that got digital alternatives. You no longer need to make countless trips to news paper vendors to keep yourself up to date with the most current happenings. You get all of it for free on your mobile phone or laptop.  So, Nairobinews is what we were talking about.
Nairobi News was initially launched both as print and online platform and for reasons I didn’t get to know, it was shut down sometime later.  It was reborn later and it is now a direct competitor of the unholy The Nairobian.
  • TUKO.CO.KE
Tuko has lately been spenting all of its money on advertisements- and the really seem seem to be sure of this trick. Anyway, these gus love what they do and they are giving us some of the best local news.
